  • OceanLitter Programme invites the private sector to partner with IMO to prevent and reduce marine plastic pollution

The OceanLitter Programme is inviting the private sector to partner with IMO to prevent and reduce marine plastic pollution under a new Global Industry Alliance (GIA) managed by the OceanLitter Programme, a global programme with 30 partner countries across five regions helping the maritime transport and fishing sectors towards a low plastics future.

IMO has been successfully partnering with private industry for over a decade under the Global Industry Alliances (GIAs) to Support Low Carbon Shipping and Marine Biosafety. Following these successful partnerships that bring together maritime, shipping, aquaculture and other industries to jointly develop innovative solutions to tackle the issues, the IMO is leading the establishment of the OceanLitter GIA to prevent and reduce plastic pollution in the ocean. This new alliance will bring together maritime, fisheries and other interested industry leaders to work together to tackle the global challenge of marine plastic litter.

Expressions of interest are welcomed by email to oceanlitter@imo.org.
